Andre Faria

Andre [they/he] is a senior from eastern Kentucky majoring in Psychology. They have served as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab since Spring 2020 and is currently conducting their honors thesis in the lab on reactions to shifting gender identity demographics. Outside the lab, Andre enjoys listening to and making music, playing video games, and driving hours to ride roller coasters around the country!

Valerie Akinyoyenu

Valerie Akinyoyenu [she/her] is a senior in Berkeley College majoring in Cognitive Science and Sociology. She has served as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab since Spring 2020 and is currently conducting her honors thesis in the lab examining perceptions of time and racial progress. Outside of the lab, Valerie is involved with a cappella and works as a campus tour guide. In her free time, she enjoys discovering new

EC Mingo

Evan [EC; flexible pronouns] is a rising senior in Ezra Stiles College double majoring in Psychology and Ethnicity, Race, and Migration. EC has served as a Research Assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab since Spring 2019 and is currenlty conducting their honors thesis in the lab examining empowering narratives of racial progress. Outside of the lab, EC is a Coordinator with the Coalition of Allyship Advocates, a new DEI peer education group at Yale. In free time, EC likes to binge Disney or anime with friends.

Andrew Sorota

Andrew [he/him] is a rising senior in Pauli Murray College. He began working as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab in Summer 2020. Outside of the lab, Andrew has served as the Chair of the Progressive Party and the Chief of Staff of SNAP PAC, and he volunteers as a GED tutor through the Yale Undergraduate Prison Project. In his free time, Andrew enjoys running, reading, curating playlists, and spending time with friends.

Annalisa Myer

Annalisa [she/her] was a summer intern with the SPCl in 2020. She begins her graduate study at CUNY this fall and will be continuing her research on perceptions of racial economic equality with us.

Vincent Rice

Vincent was a summer intern  with the SPCL in 2021 and is currently a graduate student at the University of Buffalo. Vincent is interested in the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) as an emerging tool or teammate within organizational work teams. Vincent is working with us on projects examining how people reason about algorithmic bias. Outside of the lab, Vincent enjoys watching a lot of sports games and traveling to new places.

Anita Ding

Anita [she/her] was a summer intern with the SPCL in 2021. She is a junior at the University of Toronto, where she is expected to complete a B.S. in Psychology in early 2023. Her research interests include social perception, bias, and inequality, with a focus on the inclusion of intersectional groups.

Keyana Alexis

Keyana [she/her] is a junior from Silver Spring, Maryland majoring in Psychology. She started as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab in summer 2021. Outside the lab, Keyana enjoys dancing with several dance groups on campus, accumulating as many plants as possible, thrifting, and compulsively buying cool mugs! 

 

Jessica Pardim Araujo

Jessica graduated from Smith College with a B.A. in Psychology and a Minor in Applied Statistics in Spring 2023. She is currently a Postbaccalaureate Research Fellow at The Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School and a member of the SPCL. Her research interests include inequality, coalition-building, and decision-making. In her free time, Jessica enjoys watching baking shows and going on long walks.

Sophia Liu

Sophia Liu [she/her] is a first-year in Berkeley College and a prospective Cognitive Science and Film & Media Studies double major. She has served as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab since Spring 2024. Outside of the lab, Sophia works on theatre productions, reads for The Yale Review, and volunteers with the Yale Undergraduate Prison Project. Sophia likes to write poetry, sculpt, and eat banana pudding.

Justice Brown

Justice Brown (she/her) is a senior in Davenport College double majoring in Psychology and Ethnicity, Race, & Migration. Justice’s research interests surround the ways in which social inequities are (re)produced by legal and educational policies, how communities of color are impacted by these practices on a psychological level, and what mechanisms can promote healing within these communities. Outside of the lab, Justice is a senior mentor for the Psychology Department and a member of Yale Cheerleading.

MeiLan Haberl

MeiLan Haberl (she/her) is a first-semester senior in Pauli Murray College, majoring in Psychology. Since Spring 2024, she has been excited to serve the Social Perception and Communication Lab as a research assistant, with a particular interest in navigating diverse environments and responding to discrimination. Beyond lab work, MeiLan has worked as a First Year Counselor, Communication and Consent Educator (CCE), and is a member of Yale’s Co-Ed Club Hockey team.

Mahal Montes

Mahal Montes (she/her) is a junior in Saybrook College majoring in Cognitive Science with a certificate in Statistics and Data Science. She has served as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab since Spring 2024 and is planning on conducting her senior thesis in the lab on bias perception. Outside of the lab, Mahal is involved in a jazz and swing a cappella group, the Filipino Association, and student campus organizing.

Gamze Kazakoglu

Gamze Kazakoglu (she/her) is a senior in Saybrook College, majoring in Psychology. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, she has served as a research assistant in the Social Perception and Communication Lab since Spring 2023. She is currently conducting her honors thesis in the lab on the impact of bias attributions on individuals’ emotional responses (e.g., anger, guilt, moral outrage), and how that influences prosocial behavior during the times of humanitarian crises, evaluating personal confrontations (through in-group identity) and third party judgments (media bias and journalists). Outside the lab, Gamze enjoys listening to art rock and hanging out with her pets, Betty and Maya.

Diego Faria

Diego Faria (he/him) is a Junior at Stiles pursuing a B.S. in Psychology and a certificate in Statistics & Data Science. He is also Venezuelan and a transfer student from the Honors College at Miami Dade College, where found his calling for Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He is thrilled to start his research journey at the SPCL lab in Spring 2024. Outside of the lab, he is a poet for Oye! Spoken Word, an avid skater, and community outreach coordinator for Ezra Stiles College Council.
